Healing Center
The Vision:
During a vision quest, a grandfather came and took me to
show me a place. He showed me a village, a huge earth lodge
in the middle of the encampment, a lot of activity, a huge
garden, sweat lodges and horses. As we stood on top of the
hill, he stretched his arm outward and waved it from the
right to the left and said, “This is what the people need, a
place to go and heal their heart, mind and spirit.” I
agreed with him. Which I call this place a place where we
can “Reclaim our Sacred Identities.”

Quote:
{“You have good visions which the grandfathers have shown
you. What they call a visionary. You see things of how
they should be, could be and see with compassion. But the
people do not see what you see and they will make it
difficult for you. They may even laugh at you, make fun of
you and put you down because of their ignorance. But you
must remember what the Grandfathers have shown you and you
must keep your vision alive because it is good. Don’t allow
others or barriers to stop you.”} (Chief Blue Bird)
Quote:
{"I think I have
told you, but if I have not, you must have understood, that
a man or woman who has a Vision is not able to use the power
of it until after he or she has performed the Vision on
earth for the people to see."} ~ Black Elk
THE HEALING CETNER GEARED FOR YOUTH
~
For those of you who are interested
in seeing more done for our youth, we can gear the healing
center toward meeting the needs of the youth.
The healing center will be a place
where we can have gifted people work with the youth in
educating them about life and human development, native
cultural teachings and spiritual teachings. The academic
teachings will come from a gifted and talented approach in
educating and teaching the youth. Especially with youth,
they learn more hands on learning experience more so than
the traditional classroom setting. I always believed all
reservation schools should be more of a therapeutic and
Cultural related in teachings then the traditional classroom
setting. G/F
Establishing a Foundation
We must be the ones to teach our
children and grandchildren the native ways, our values, our
ceremonies and spiritual teachings. We must be the ones to
be the true warriors of dedicating our lives toward
nurturing others who want to learn. We must be the true
warriors in taking the lead in educating, teachings and
building each other up, especially our children.
This type of healing center will
consist of powerful results and planting seeds of faith
within the minds, hearts and spirit of those who come to
learn and grow to be the next generation of warriors and
develop warrior-ship skills. G/F
Basic teachings in learning rules for
being a respectful human being (for example);
(Sacred Tree/Four Worlds Development
Project, Lethbridge, Alberta,Ca)
I. MEDICINE
WHEELThe Medicine wheel is an ancient and powerful symbol of
the universe. It is a silent teacher of the realities of things. It shows the
many different ways in which all things are interconnected. Beyond that, it
shows not only things that are, but also things that could be.
The medicine wheel can be used to help us see or understand
things we can’t quite see or understand because they are ideas and not physical
objects. Universal teachings, cardinal directions, the four grandfathers, and
many other relationships that can be expressed within the medicine wheel.
II.
SYMBOLS
Symbols express and represent meaning. Meaning helps
provide purpose and understanding in the lives of human beings. To live without
symbols is to experience existence far short of its full meaning. Ways of
expressing and representing meaning include the symbol systems of mathematics,
spoken and written language and the arts.
III. CHOICE/DECISION:
We have a ‘choice’ and ‘decision’ (our will) to help
develop the four aspects of our nature. It is the force that helps us make
decisions and then act to carry out those decisions. We can learn to exercise
our ‘will’ by carrying out each of its five steps. 1) attention (concentration)
2) goal setting 3) initiating the action 4) perseverance & 5) completing the
action.
IV. VISION:
We gain a vision of what our potentials is from our elders
and from the Teachings of the Sacred Tree. By trying to live up to that vision
and by trying to live like the people we admire, we grow and develop. Our
vision of what we can become is like a strong magnet pulling us toward it.
V. GROWTH
AND CHANGE:
All human beings have the capacity to grow and change. The
four aspects of our nature (the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) can
be developed when we have a vision of what is possible and when we use our
volition to change our actions and our attitudes so that they will be closer to
our vision of a healthier, happy human being.VI. IDENTITY
A person’s identity consists of; 1) Body awareness, how you
experience your physical presence. 2) Self-concept: what you think about
yourself and your potential. 3) Self-determination: your ability to use your
‘will’ to actualize your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual
potentialities.
VII. VALUES
Values are the way human beings
pattern and use their energy. If there is not a balance between our values
concerning ourselves and our values concerning others, we cannot continue to
develop our true potential as human beings. If there is an imbalance,
individuals, and whole communities suffer and even die. Do we wonder ‘why’
values are lacking or died within families or our communities?
In Depth of Teachings
1) Wholeness. All things
are interrelated. Everything in the universe is a part of a
single whole.
2) Change.
All of creation is in a state of constant change. Nothing
stays the same except the presence of cycle upon cycle of
change.
3) Changes occur in cycles or patterns.
4) The
seen and unseen. The physical world is real. The spiritual
world is real. These two are aspects of one reality.
5) Human
Beings are Spiritual as well as physical.
6) Human
beings can always acquire new gifts, but they must struggle
to do so.
7) There
are 4 dimensions of “true learning”. (Mind, Body, Heart &
Spirit)
8) The
spiritual dimension of human development may be understood
in terms of the four related capacities. Utilizing the
Circles of Life to visually see and observe.
9) Human
beings must be active participants in the unfolding of their
own potentialities.
10) To
Open New Doorways ~ reconnect to the spiritual path, the
medicine wheel, a person must decide to take the journey.
The path has infinite patience. It will always be there for
those who decide to travel it.
11) Anyone
who sets out on a journey of self-development will be aided.
(Making a commitment and then acts upon that commitment is
the key) There will guides, helpers and natural helpers,
and teachers who will appear, and the spiritual protectors
to watch over the traveler. No test will be give that the
traveler does not already have the strength to meet.
12)
he only source of failure on a
journey will be the traveler’s own failure to follow the
teachings.
Other aspects of Teachings and
Anyone else who is Interested
1) An
informal school called life. Each day, you will be
presented with opportunities to learn what you need to
know. The lessons presented are often completely different
from those you “think” you need.
2) There
are no mistakes, only lessons: Growth is a process
of trail, error and experimentation. You can learn as much
from failure as you can from success. Even more in the
process of understanding and seeing things differently.
3)
Lessons are repeated until it
is learned: A lesson
will be presented to you in various forms until you have
learned it. When you have learned it (a evidenced by a
change in attitude and ultimately your behavior), then you
can go on to the next lesson.
4)
Learning Lessons Does not End:
There is no stage of life
that does not contain some lessons. As long as you live
there will be something more to learn about self, life and
others.
5) “There”
is no better than “Here”:
When your ‘there’ has become a ‘here’,
you will simply discover another ‘there’ that will again
look better than your ‘here.’ Don’t be fooled by believing
that the unattainable is better than what you have.
6) Others
are Merely Mirrors of You:
You cannot love or hate something about
another person unless it reflects something you love or hate
about yourself. When tempted to criticize others, ask
yourself why you feel so strongly.
7) What
you Make of Your Life is Up to YOU:
You have all the tools and resources
you need. What you create with those tools and resources is
up to you. Remember that through desire, goal setting and
unflagging effort you can have anything you want.
Persistence is the key to success.
8) The
Answers Lie Inside of YOU:
The solution’s to all of life’s
problems lie within your grasp. All you need to do is ask,
look, listen and trust.
9) You
Will Forget All This:
Unless you consistently stay focused on the goals you have
set for yourself, everything you’ve just read won’t mean a
thing.
The Healing
Center Must Be Universal
To meet a variety of needs and
teachings we must be flexible, willing to accommodate,
switch gears, implement, rotate and do whatever it takes to
give everyone an opportunity to experience what they need
and their interest. For our youth as well as the adults or
groups of people, we can plan and schedule. Those who want
to learn and may have never experienced the basic teachings
of life and being.
Other Interests and Reasons
For those who are interested in
learning more about self and others. For those who are on a
journey of self discovery. It doesn’t matter who you are or
what age you are if your “will” is strong and your
spirit is hungry to learn. Or if you feel you need a
retreat, a break and need time for yourself. Whatever your
feeling and thoughts are about your life and being, this
will be a good place to start.
This is Medicine
Fox's Vision to create a Transitional place for spirit
recovery and healing which will be culturally/spiritually
based.
Medicine Fox believes in order to be successful, we must be
independent and separate from tribal politics, grant
stipulations of what we can or cannot do. Therefore, in
order to make the vision come alive and build a healing
center we will have to rely on donations, monetary gifts,
contributions from those who are willing to contribute to
seeing the vision come alive.
Contributions
are welcome to help start building the healing center.
Those who contribute and willing to sponsor and fund this
native project will be honored within a Medicine Wheel that
will be in the center of the encampment with their names of
all who contributed. Also those who sponsor and contributed
funds will have an opportunity to stay and experience the
uniqueness of the spiritual environment and activities at no
charge.
Honoring our Contributors/ Donators To Fund the Healing
Center:
-
By make a
large Medicine Wheel within the center of the location
and put the names and organizations who contributed
within the Medicine Wheel for others to view.
-
To do an
Honoring Ceremony for those who Contribute and recognize
their generous gift in building a healing center.
-
To have
healing colors within a star quilt made to place the
names and organizations of those who made larger
contributions to be placed within the administrative
lodge besides having their names and organizations
within the Medicine Wheel and ceremony.
-
To send
notices of events and spiritual retreats to those who
contributed so they may participate when they can or
when they may need a retreat, we can accommodate.
